elementary PRINCIPAL

Christine Banks Jones is a native of Northern California. She was born and raised in West Marin County  in the town of Point Reyes, and attended the public schools there. She later matriculated at the University of California at Berkeley where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. While at

Berkeley she was a student manager of the Young Inspiration Gospel Choir. Under her leadership the  choir recorded a CD that is cataloged in the Smithsonian Institution as the Best College Gospel Choir in  America. Following college she was an entrepreneur and at the age of 23 opened Amani Beauty Supply store in Marin County. 

After hearing the call of God to preaching ministry she left her business and moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse School of Religion, where she earned a Master of Divinity Degree in Homiletics and Christian Education. While In seminary she also met her life partner in marriage and ministry, Donnell Rickey Jones. Following seminary they married and began their life and ministry together. Christine was then ordained in both the Southern Baptist Church and the Christian Methodist Episcopal church as an Elder. She and her husband ministered at churches in Riverside, California; Birmingham, Alabama; and Jacksonville, Florida. They moved back home to California in 2008 and in 2010 planted a church called New Direction Ministries where they are co-Pastors. 

Christine began her teaching career in Jacksonville Florida where she taught 4 th Grade. Upon returning to California she taught 3 rd, 4 th , 5 th grades at WHAP Scholastic Academy in Marin and 5 th /6 th , 7 th /8 th grade classes at Vista Christian School in Richmond. Most recently she served as Principal of New Direction Christian Academy, also in Richmond a K-8 th school she opened with her husband when Vista Christian

School closed unexpectedly. She and her husband are also owners of New Soul Café in Richmond, where her husband is the chef. Her proudest accomplishment to date is being the mother of 4 children, Imani, 18, DJ, 14, Sarah, 10, and Josiah 6.

jan wood

Jan has been working as the financial advisor at ESCS since 1981. Both of her children attended ESCS. She loves doing math, working with numbers, and administrative work. In her free time, Jan loves spending time with her grandsons, reading, and quilting. She loves ESCS and the people who work here.

Rinku is a Pharmacy Technician by profession and became a full-time mother after her second child.  In her free time , she loves spending time with her family and friends.  She is very excited to be joining the ESCS family.  She hopes to give all the support and warmth she can to the ESCS family and their families.

Julieta is the administrative assistant for the Chairman of the Board, Russ Sturm. She works hard to maintain the culture and learning environment here at ESCS. Julieta has been a part of the ESCS family since 2010 when she started volunteering. Julieta came on staff in 2014. 


She loves the fact that she is able to witness as her own kids and our ESCS students develop and mature from kids into young adults and seeing where the Lord may lead them to. In her free time, Julieta enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying different restaurants, food & desserts, watching movies, and reading a good book.

Diana Vahlstrom

Diana joined our office staff in 2013. Diana took after her parents in their hard working nature. She strives to help maintain the family atmosphere here at ESCS. She enjoys spending time with her family and creating new memories. You might find her sporting Niner gear around here.

Absera Lakew

first grade

Absera was born in Ethiopia and went to school in Berkeley and graduated from California Berkeley.  She has worked hard as Head Teacher at Vista Christian for 24 years.  She is married and has raised 6 nieces and nephews.  Absera loves to travel and gardening.  She speaks German, some French and Amharic (Ethiopian native language).  She enjoys working in a Christian environment, leading children to the Lord through action and God's word the bible.

Deborah franklin

second grade

Deborah graduated from Biola University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and finished her teaching credentials at Cal State Fullerton.  She has taught 4th and 5th grade as well as tutoring K-8 over the course of more than  20 years in education.  Music continues to be part of her life as she enjoys being the accompanist at her church as well as teaching piano or singing solos.  She considers teaching at a Christian school to be a way to glorify God by helping others to know Him better.

Donna is our wonderful third grade teacher. She is the definition of love and care. This is Donna's 17th year working at ESCS. She loves watching the learning process develop in the children and their understanding of God's universe. Her family is a big part of her life. Donna's family is full of teachers and has had a big impact on her career choice. Donna enjoys playing with her grandson, telling stories and walking the family dog, Kody.

Nanaushika Mcgee

Alan is our fifth grade teacher here at ESCS. He started teaching at ESCS in 2013. Alan loves the staff here, the parents and students, and the freedom to incorporate Jesus into education. Dennis snyder

sixth grade -  Math and science

Dennis has been in Christian school education for 30+ years.  He grew up in the Midwest and began his teacher career there as a vocal/instrumental instructor before moving to CA to continue his career as a classroom teacher and administrator.  Dennis came to ESCS at the beginning of 2019 as a substitute teacher on both the elementary and junior/senior high campuses.  He enjoys reading, hiking, cooking, gardening, volunteer work and serving as the Music Director at his church.

Vivian Wells

sixth Grade - Bible, history and language arts

Vivian has been teaching middle school for over 10 years.  She loves teaching Bible and Humanities.  She finds joy in inspiring children to learn and grow in their faith.  Her other passions are church history, music, reading, preaching, entrepreneurship and re-organizing.  In her free time, Vivian loves spending time with her husband, nieces & nephews and close friends.  Mrs. Wells loves Christian Education and is excited to be here.

Darren Ojeda

Athletic Director, childcare director,  P.e. Teacher, coach

Darren has been with us since 2000. He works at the elementary campus, wearing many different hats. His main focus is the Physical Education department. He is responsible for your child's health and fitness while they are at school. He also heads up the Child Care Program that we offer and the Sports Program here at ESCS. 


In his free time, Darren likes to exercise and play all kinds of sports, making him perfect for his job! He is an active fan of the Warriors and the Sharks.

Lynda has been our music director since 1990. She teaches music to all elementary classes, kindergarten through sixth grade. Lynda appreciates the fact that at ESCS, we can openly talk about, praise, and sing songs to God. She loves working with children and the staff here.

Computers, Library

Jean wears many hats at ESCS. She teaches computer class for the second through sixth grade students. She also is the librarian for the elementary campus. Jean spent 8 years  as a parent volunteer before she began working at ESCS in 2002.  Jean loves all her students and her co-workers.  She cheers for the bay area teams and the UC Davis Softball team. In her free time, Jean loves taking tap/jazz dance classes, watching her daughter play softball, and playing with her granddaughter.

Danny is our go to guy here at ESCS. He does all the maintenance, making sure everything works and that our school looks wonderful everyday. Danny started working at ESCS in 2011. He loves cooking and hanging out at the beach. Rooting for the Warriors, Raiders, and Giants, he fits right in!

Russ has been the pastor at Central Assembly since 2014. 

He brings a certain upbeat and joyful attitude to both campuses, 

as the Chairman of the School Board. Both of his daughters attend ESCS. He loves working in an environment where everyone is on the same page, serving God. In his free time he enjoys going on long rides on his motorcycle.
