principal

Danyiel began working at ESCS in 2015. She started as the second grade teacher at the elementary campus and is now the principal at the junior high/high school campus. She loves working at ESCS because she thrives in a workplace that honors and serves Jesus. She loves that God is constantly present in her day and the school. 


In her free time, Danyiel loves DIY projects and interior design. She was raised in a divided sports fans house, Raiders vs. Niners, but is a Raiders fan at heart.

Kathy ruiz

Kathy started working at ESCS in 1990. She loves working here and brings a certain level of love and care to everything she does. Kathy enjoys spending time with her son and her daughter. She also loves to cook and garden.

Julieta cubas

Administrative Assistant

Julieta is the administrative assistant for our principal. She works hard to maintain the culture and learning environment here at ESCS. Julieta has been a part of the ESCS family since 2000 when she started volunteering. Julieta came on as full time staff in 2014. 


She loves the fact that she is able to witness as her own kids and our ESCS students develop and mature from kids into young adults and seeing where the Lord may lead them to. In her free time, Julieta enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying different restaurants, food & desserts, watching movies, and reading a good book.

Jan has been working as the financial advisor at ESCS since 1981. Both of her children attended ESCS. She loves doing math, working with numbers, and administrative work. In her free time, Jan loves spending time with her grandsons, reading, and quilting. She loves ESCS and the people who work here.

Derrick Leonard

u.s. history, spanish

Derrick has been with us since 2013. He has taught 6th-12th grade for over 20 years. He teaches both History and Spanish here at ESCS. He learned Spanish while working at a Salvation Army orphanage in Veracruz, Mexico and has traveled to 30 countries and all 50 states. In his free time he likes to spend time with his daughter Mia, riding his mountain bike, and going to Lake Tahoe.

charlie nason

Charlie started at ESCS in 2015. Charlie is a pastor and a teacher. He currently teaches here, at the Cornerstone Bible College and Seminary, and at his local church. His heart is to equip Christians to better understand the gospel so they may share Christ in the community and reach the lost. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife Anna and their five children.

Scott started teaching at ESCS in 2010. He has worked as a Research Scientist, a lab technician, and in Management Technology at Clorox, Chevron, and Bank of America, respectively. He has been a substitute teacher as well and brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to our students. He loves literature, history, art appreciation, photography, birding, botany, hiking and swimming.

Sugar roy

Mrs. Roy teaches Junior High Spanish and an online Health course for 10th graders. In Chicago, Sugar met her amazing husband of 13 years. Together they have three children. 


Sugar and her husband have a passion to share the Good News of Jesus to under resourced communities. They have started a church in Richmond, Ca., Living Hope Neighborhood Church, where they have served the community for 8 years. Her passions are her family, teaching small group Bible Study to women, drinking coffee, trying different foods, walks by the water, and learning about different cultures.

Henok tecleab

Henok is fairly new to our staff here at ESCS. He started in 2016. He teaches Mathematics for 7th grade through 12th grade. He brings a fresh look on math and life to help the students enjoy learning. Henok loves working at ESCS because he believes the main purpose of the school is to build a nation by training children according to the word of God.

Lucille has been a part of our ESCS family since 1979. She started at the elementary campus and eventually transitioned to the junior high and high school campus. All 3 of her children attended ESCS. Lucille loves to spend time with her 4 grandsons. She enjoys collecting new recipes and trying them out for her family.


Mrs. Ojeda's number one enjoyment is studying God's Word. She learns something new everyday and says the Word feeds her soul. She loves interacting with the students and says that is what keeps her coming to work everyday. The students love her Otis Spunkmeyer cookies at break!

Lynda has been our music director since 1990. She teaches band here at the junior high and high school campus. She also teaches music to all the elementary classes as well. Lynda appreciates the fact that at ESCS, we can openly talk about, praise, and sing songs to God. She loves working with children and the staff here.

jean bradbury

Jean wears many hats at ESCS. She is the librarian here at the junior high and high school campus and at the elementary school. She also teaches computer class for the second through sixth grade students. Jean spent 8 years as a parent volunteer before she began working at ESCS in 2002. Jean loves all her students and her co-workers.


She cheers for the bay area teams and the UC Davis Softball team. In her free time, Jean loves taking tap/jazz dance classes, watching her daughter play softball, and playing with her granddaughter.

Dave is our facilities supervisor at the junior high/high school campus. He makes sure we are all taken care of and that our campus runs smoothly. Dave has been on staff with us since 2007.  Dave loves working in a Christian environment. 


He loves playing baseball with his three sons and spending time with his family. Dave roots for the San Francisco Giants.

Russell Sturm

Pastor, Chairman of the school board

Russ has been the pastor at Central Assembly since 2014. He brings a certain upbeat and joyful attitude to both campuses, as the Chairman of the School Board. Both of his daughters attend ESCS. He loves working in an environment where everyone is on the same page, serving God. In his free time he enjoys going on long rides on his motorcycle.
