El Sobrante christian school

El Sobrante Christian School (ESCS) is a division of Central Assembly Church. The school was established in 1971 under the leadership of the church’s founding pastor, Reverend Russell Griffin. Pastor Griffin had a vision to start a Christian School as an extension of the church that would serve the El Sobrante community and its surrounding areas. Today, the church is under the leadership of Pastor Russell Sturm.

The school started off with small beginnings. In the first year, we taught Kindergarten through Fourth Grade with 24 students, 2 teachers, and 12 classrooms. In 1984, 3 additional classrooms were added along with new restrooms and administrative offices. In 1989, a 2 classroom modular building was added and in 1996, we acquired the Junior/Senior High Campus with 16 classrooms, a gymnasium, locker rooms, lunch room, and a kitchen.

The school has experienced steady growth under the leadership of four different Principals. As 2020 was a challenging year for our school, El Sobrante Christian School had to make the difficult decision of closing down the high school.  Today, El Sobrante Christian School continues to teach Kindergarten through 8th grade.

It is our prayer that God will continue to enlarge our territory to meet the needs of and be a blessing to the students in this community.
