Mr. Cox grew up in the El Sobrante area, graduating from De Anza High School in 1970. He subsequently graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering with a teaching emphasis. Mr. Cox worked as a laboratory technician for Chevron Chemical Company (1971-1982), a formulation chemist for the Clorox Company (1982-1994), and as a Managing Director of computer operations for Bank of America (1994-2010). He started substitute teaching at the ESCS high school campus in 2010, and then became a full-time math and science teacher in 2011.  Mr. Cox has been married for 40 years, is an elder in his church, and loves reading, photography, natural history, and traveling.

Connor Greene

Jr./Sr. High English Teacher

Connor Greene is a graduate of San Francisco State University’s Creative Writing Program. He has a passion for youth ministry and has remained involved in his church’s youth group staff since 2013. Connor brings his love for writing and respect for literature with him to ESCS and wherever he goes. He is an avid film fan, and can name the cast of just about any contemporary movie. In his free time, he likes to watch football with his father and grandfather cheering on the San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots.

Joshua johnson

Jr./Sr. High Math Teacher

Joshua Johnson was born and raised in Palmdale, California. Joshua attended Biola University and earned his Bachelors of Science in applied mathematics in 2018. Having tutored his way through college, Joshua developed a passion for helping others learn and grow in mathematics and other subjects. Joshua enjoys listening to Christian music in his spare time and trying out new recipes online as well as staying in shape.

Derrick Leonard

Derrick has been with ESCS since 2012. He has taught junior high and high school since 1996. He teaches both History and Spanish at ESCS. He learned Spanish living in Veracruz, Mexico.  He likes to travel to other countries and within the United States.  For the past three years, he has led the 8th grade Washington D.C./New York City trip.  In his free time he likes to spend time with his daughter Mia, go to Lake Tahoe, and ride his mountain bike.

Judith Holton-MENDEZ

Drama Teacher

Judith Holten-Mendez has spent her career educating students in the performing arts.  She has been the drama teacher at ESCS since 2017.  She received her B.A and Secondary Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University.  Her M.A. in Clinical Psychology (emphasis in Drama Therapy) was earned at Antioch University in San Francisco.


As a professional, she has worked in several related disciplines; teacher, author, playwright, dancer, choreographer, theater director and drama therapist.  Additionally, Mrs. Mendez toured as a dance soloist with the Sun Ra Orchestra, touring Europe, Egypt, Nigeria, Japan, Mexico, Canada and the United states.  She also founded, directed and wrote plays for three youth theater companies based in San Francisco and New Jersey.  In 1996 she was awarded the Warren W. Eukel Teacher of Excellence Trust Grant.

charlie nason

Charlie started at ESCS in 2015. Charlie is a pastor and a teacher. He currently teaches here, at the Cornerstone Bible College and Seminary, and at his local church. His heart is to equip Christians to better understand the gospel so they may share Christ in the community and reach the lost. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife Anna and their five children.

Lynda has been our music director since 1990. She teaches band here at the junior high and high school campus. She also teaches music to all the elementary classes as well. Lynda appreciates the fact that at ESCS, we can openly talk about, praise, and sing songs to God. She loves working with children and the staff here.

dave campbell

facilities supervisor

Dave is our facilities supervisor at the junior high/high school campus. He makes sure we are all taken care of and that our campus runs smoothly. Dave has been on staff with us since 2007.  Dave loves working in a Christian environment. 


He loves playing baseball with his three sons and spending time with his family. Dave roots for the San Francisco Giants.

Julieta cubas

Administrative Assistant

Julieta is the administrative assistant for the Chairman of the Board, Russ Sturm. She works hard to maintain the culture and learning environment here at ESCS. Julieta has been a part of the ESCS family since 2010 when she started volunteering. Julieta came on staff in 2014. 


She loves the fact that she is able to witness as her own kids and our ESCS students develop and mature from kids into young adults and seeing where the Lord may lead them to. In her free time, Julieta enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying different restaurants, food & desserts, watching movies, and reading a good book.

lucille ojeda

food coordinator, eagle's nest supervisor

Lucille has been a part of our ESCS family since 1979. She started at the elementary campus and eventually transitioned to the junior high and high school campus. All 3 of her children attended ESCS. Lucille loves to spend time with her 4 grandsons. She enjoys collecting new recipes and trying them out for her family.


Mrs. Ojeda's number one enjoyment is studying God's Word. She learns something new everyday and says the Word feeds her soul. She loves interacting with the students and says that is what keeps her coming to work everyday. The students love her Otis Spunkmeyer cookies at break!

Kathy started working at ESCS in 1990. She loves working here and brings a certain level of love and care to everything she does. Kathy enjoys spending time with her son and her daughter. She also loves to cook and garden.

Jan has been working as the financial advisor at ESCS since 1981. Both of her children attended ESCS. She loves doing math, working with numbers, and administrative work. In her free time, Jan loves spending time with her grandsons, reading, and quilting. She loves ESCS and the people who work here.

Russell Sturm

Pastor

Russ has been the pastor at Central Assembly since 2014. He brings a certain upbeat and joyful attitude to both campuses, as the Chairman of the School Board. Both of his daughters attend ESCS. He loves working in an environment where everyone is on the same page, serving God. In his free time he enjoys going on long rides on his motorcycle.
